The song debuted digitally on July 6, 2025, coinciding with the anime’s premiere in Japan, and will also feature on Yasuda’s upcoming double A-side single “Hikari no Sumika / BROKEN GLASS”, set for release in Japan on August 27, 2025.

Rei Yasuda’s Creative Process

Yasuda wrote the lyrics for "Hikari no Sumika" after reading the original Ruri Rocks manga. She revealed that the characters Ruri-chan and Nagi-san reminded her of the spiritual connection she feels with natural stones she wears daily as talismans. Drawing inspiration from the timeless process of gemstone creation, Yasuda used “jewels” as a metaphor for personal growth, self-discovery, and the enduring will to find one’s place in the world.

About Ruri Rocks

The anime is based on Keiichiro Shibuya’s manga and follows Ruri Tanigawa, a high school girl with a passion for shiny objects, especially crystals. Her hobby leads her to the mountains, where she meets Nagi Arato, a graduate student in mineralogy. As they begin collecting minerals together, Ruri’s curiosity evolves into a deep appreciation for science, geology, and the beauty of nature.
